Northern WI State Fair Attendance
Press Release: Northern Wisconsin State Fair results
The Northern Wisconsin State Fair in Chippewa Falls is pleased to announce that attendance for the 5 day event was up 19.5% over last year, at 70,956 fairgoers. "Weather is the largest factor affecting fair attendance and we were fortunate to have moderate temperatures and only one evening of rain" stated Rusty Volk, Executive Director of the Fair. Other contributing factors effecting attendance is the quality Main Stage acts, Chippewa County Junior Fair participants, quality Midway attractions, Gordy's Front Porch free stage, family educational experiences, and the number & quality of animal exhibits shown at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair Open Division.
At the Quality Meat Animal Auction, sales were up significantly over 2011, with total sales of $133,870.70 for 82 animals (beef, swine & sheep). This is up 49% from last year and the largest sales amount on record for the animal auction that has generated $1,019,137.17 over the past 13 years for youth in Chippewa County.
The Fair Entry Department reported a total of 1,653 exhibitors entering a total of 10,215 exhibits. This is an increase of 12% in the number of exhibitors competing for premiums at the fair. These exhibitors competed for a total offering of $59,900.75 in premiums with $23,647.25 in premiums paid to local exhibitors. This increase is an indication that more people are participating in competitive exhibits offered at the fair.
Along with the increased in attendance and participation, food & merchandise vendors posted an increase in sales of 32.5% and our Midway announced they had their best year on record for the 2012 Northern Wisconsin State Fair with sales up 19% over last year. Gate admission, parking and beer sales are all up over 2011 statistics.
Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers, Chippewa County Extension Office, 4-H/FFA advisors & leaders, Chippewa County & City of Chippewa Falls Administration and employees, EMT/Firemen & law enforcement personnel, First-Aid station volunteers, Fair Sponsors, Fair Board & staff, as well as the dedicated fair Superintendents, Judges and employees who worked tirelessly to make this event safe, fun, enjoyable and memorable for all fairgoers.
